Professional Pickleball Coach Teaches Me How to Hit Groundstrokes

I played football at Georgia Tech as a Kicker/Punter and have picked up many sports over the years but I have ZERO tennis experience. Transitioning to pickleball without that background made hitting certain shots very difficult. In this video, Matthew Cross helps me learn groundstrokes using a broom as a teaching tool. I hope you find this helpful and enjoyable to watch. Cheers!

Now step over 3 ft, again, again, yes, again. Now on the other side of the net. Perfect. Thanks for coming and cleaning the court. Just teasing. Good video. Cheers

Excellent analogy with the broom. Smart thinking.

Some comments aren’t showing up, idk why.

Comment – “In the forehand groundstroke, would Matthew advocate ‘clearing the table’ with the non-dominant hand to facilitate body rotation”

Answer – As a kicker, I always wanted as much rotation of my hips as possible to generate more power; however, in pickleball, Matthew has talked to me extensively about “checking my rotation”. Meaning using my non dominant hand to stop the rotation of my hips after contact so that my body is balanced and ready for the next shot.

Aye! Congrats on 1k, Shea! It’s awesome to see your channel grow and, honestly, it’s partially inspired me to begin some pb content creation on my own. 😉

I’ve found myself in such a similar spot with my groundstrokes, it was like I was hitting a brick wall with that specific aspect of my game. Never got them quite right. I’ll have to try out these techniques when I hit the court again this week. Thanks for the quality upload

Great video – Vision so important . I like many players have a vision astigmatism. Could you weigh in , for pickle ball sports glasses 1. A single vision lens prescription… or 2. Progressive 2-fields of vision . Many thanks 👓
