This is so good! I play with many partners who do the pop up shot which leaves me feeling very vulnerable. But, I too, will often pop up shots because of the "panic" mode I can put myself into. Help! Ball coming fast!! Ugh. Thanks so much and keep ’em coming! 🙂

  2. Debbie Lande on December 2, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Awesome video. I need to work on that and not panic!!

  3. Dennis Metz on December 2, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Great video, Tony, and perfect timing (for me anyway)! How do I go about getting a shirt?

  4. Chuck Walls on December 2, 2021 at 10:29 pm

Just switched to this volley and results were immediate. Thanks Lucy!

  5. Ray Bowman on December 2, 2021 at 10:29 pm

  6. Randall Kadish on December 2, 2021 at 10:30 pm

When I am at the NVZ line I have to start using the block volley. I am 68 and do not have the reflexes of a Ben Johns. Interesting that Lucy does move the paddle a little forward. I was taught not to move the paddle at all, like hitting a bunt in baseball. Thank you, Lucy,

  7. Don Turcott on December 2, 2021 at 10:31 pm

Wow, what a great video. The advice about trying to stay calm is great. Can’t wait to try this method

  8. Rueben on December 2, 2021 at 10:31 pm

Maybe it’s me, but I cannot hear you that well when you are speaking outside. I usually listen on my ear buds, not on my computer.

I like your stuff, but the audio tends to be very weak. I have to turn my speaker up to max.

Hi Tony, I recently came across your You tube channel. This video is particularly good but every one is excellent! Thanks for your good work. Can you tell me where this event took place, name and location. Thanks

    Terrific video. Thanks very much.

  18. Dawn Tanger on December 2, 2021 at 11:01 pm

What about when your opponents continually hit bangers at your face/head? I feel forced to move back to the middle of the court during play and don’t know how to defend or change up this type of play.

  19. RichM3215 on December 2, 2021 at 11:02 pm

Hi Tony, just started watching your videos. Glad I found your excellent site. What I need to stop is when a ball is driven to me I tend to hit it back with a longer stroke instead of either a block or a small punch. Any suggestions on stopping that urge to hit it back hard? Sounds simple but when the action is fast I just react. Thanks.

Lucy makes this look so easy!

  21. Don Corporal on December 2, 2021 at 11:06 pm

  22. Jim H. on December 2, 2021 at 11:08 pm

I remember the first time I saw Lucy play and it was her block video that impressed me so much. So calm, yet so effective. Her point about paddle face (downward) on those volleys is a gem. Thanks for posting! I love your vids!

  23. Gordon Savage on December 2, 2021 at 11:09 pm

Still is weak on the volume, guess they don’t monitor the comments

  25. Jules Goldstein on December 2, 2021 at 11:14 pm

So do you use a tight grip or a loose grip like you advocate in other videos. Also can you elaborate on where your opponent might hit the ball based on their body pos?

  26. think planet earth on December 2, 2021 at 11:17 pm

Really good video. Concise with excellent camera angel and speed to see how to execute it as well as the wrap up explanation from her. And the tournament video was great also showing that she is in fact able to execute this in real play.

  27. Richard's World Traveler on December 2, 2021 at 11:18 pm

Most people coach about using a soft or medium-light grip. I’m going to try what she said next time I play though.

  28. Harry L on December 2, 2021 at 11:19 pm

As a new starter in this sport, I had the problem when the opponent hit it hard at me, I blocked it with a hard push forward and caused out of bound or pop up. Later I started loosing up my grip, control the paddle face, push it with soft hand and let the paddle does its job, the success rate is a lot higher. It’s like Yin and Yang, when it comes hard, receive it soft; when it comes soft, take it hard

  29. Michael McDermott on December 2, 2021 at 11:20 pm

Love ya, Tony! ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO! ☺ 😉
