Please settle of source of contention within our pickleball club:

True or False? In pickleball, there is no such thing as a legal serve with backspin because it is physically impossible to impart backspin on a serve without violating the Low to High rule.

  6. Michael Smith on May 18, 2021 at 12:57 am

    No rule book.

  7. YOGCGEORGIA on May 18, 2021 at 12:58 am

No, don’t have one. Need one.

Also we really appreciated you making clear the rules about the wrist must be above the paddle head regardless of serve style. The one issue we have seen players called on is an illegal serve because hand /wrist and paddle is above the waist. The way I understood your explanation and the rules is, it’s where the paddle contacts the ball and the relationship of the wrist to paddle and being below the navel as you stated. Matter not where the hand and paddle start from, it’s the point of contact that matters.

Lob serve line is wrong. You said that the paddle would be facing strait up in the air. Yet I would challenge you to go swing up on the ball with the paddle face strait up, if you do then the ball will land at your feet. The paddle head position is closer to 4-2 then to 4-1.

They should make an app for the rules if they don’t already have one

  11. Jim Schaefer on May 18, 2021 at 1:07 am

Yes of course. Backhand serve and lob serve. Now even better with drop serve.

  12. Lane Sykes on May 18, 2021 at 1:15 am

The line that yoy have drawn demonstrating the wrist line differs from the line drawn in the rule book. The line in the rule book is horizontal to the playing surface. Your line would allow me to keep the paddle perpendicular to the forearm. Not sure that’s legal

  13. Wayne Espeland on May 18, 2021 at 1:18 am

Sorry , that was no for a copy of the rule book

  14. Michael Petroski on May 18, 2021 at 1:19 am

Yes I have a copy, BUT it is not the 2019 version. Thanks for the link. I hope the 2019 version has a section that highlights changes that were made.

Where can the server stand when serving on the odd side?

  16. James Crane on May 18, 2021 at 1:28 am

Question : is it possible to have a side motion with the paddle and still have a legal hit ?

  17. 760Piper on May 18, 2021 at 1:36 am

Just started playing PB at the rec level and I see a lot of illegal serves but no one ever calls them. Is it pretty common not to call them in the rec level?

  18. Thurston Kim on May 18, 2021 at 1:40 am

No but we downloaded it from here. THX !

  19. C T on May 18, 2021 at 1:42 am

A talk would be great on spin serves in which the ball is designed to hit close to the side line and bounce outside the court (alternatively, hit the center line and bounce into the partner’s court).

  20. esks75 on May 18, 2021 at 1:45 am

Definitely do no agree with a few of these , see Robert VK’s comments, I would have called a few of these illegal for the paddlehead being above the wrist, we were told, as a guide, if the paddle head is level( to the ground) as you see It contacting the ball, it’s illegal
