Thank you i personally am liking the challenge of the return of the spin serve. Hated it but now it is my challenge !

  2. Sean Walter on December 25, 2021 at 12:27 am

I don’t see why it would be made illegal. If you can return it using the deep push, as mentioned in the video, then you should be able to effectively negate the advantage. Thank you for clearly explaining reading the spin!

  3. Rob Williams on December 25, 2021 at 12:27 am

You’ve not mentioned wrist positions at all. There’s no need to alter your stance at all for a spin serve. You can make it spin left and right out of the front or back of the hand by making your fingers face your body or the opponent, or infinite variation in between.

Us Brits and Aussies with cricket cultures understand about googlies, wrong un’s, wrist and finger spin.

There are still tells but they are far less obvious. You’d need to watch thumb or finger positions after ball release and wrist position before ball release. I’m planning to make a video soon on this to explain more and how to achieve the effects by simple wrist position changes

You can not teach a physical skill by TALKING ABOUT IT…. most of these vidieos tallk to much and do not DEMONSTRATE THE SKILL !

  5. Pickleball Vids on December 25, 2021 at 12:29 am

Nicely done, guys. Great video on the spin serve. I think part of the issue here e em if u can read which direction it will kick, is how much it will kick and position your body accordingly so you can make a good return.

  6. Eric Anderson on December 25, 2021 at 12:31 am

Great video. I have yet to face anyone using the spin serve. I am trying to learn it.

  8. Jason Gaston on December 25, 2021 at 12:32 am

Folks use spin in other parts of the game, so why not the serve…

    Really good video always !

  11. racketrick on December 25, 2021 at 12:36 am

Not sure how "they" could eliminate the ‘spin’ serve without going to a drop serve only. Most of us spin the serve in some way, even from a non-spinning toss. The radical paddle movement shown on all of these serves would still spin the ball like crazy, even from a neutral toss. I’m glad no "extra" mechanism can be used to spin the toss(like the chainsaw); but maybe we need to check the server’s fingertips for stickum or sandpaper !!!

A lot of information to gather and apply but after watching your video three times I think that I have absorbed most of what you two suggest. Having seen the one handed spin serve performed several times by several different people I must admit that I don’t like receiving it when it is done well, but haven’t seen it done with a lot success. It is a skill that takes the right person a considerable amount of training to learn how to do it effectively and accurately. Thanks for the instruction.

  13. Michael Sliwa Speaks on December 25, 2021 at 12:36 am

    Love the serve😎

  14. Lorraine Rupper on December 25, 2021 at 12:37 am

So, did you say to return it to the non-server? I couldn’t hear it very well from the video. Also some video examples of it would be nice.

  15. Laura Nelson on December 25, 2021 at 12:39 am

I would have liked to see some returns of these serves. You talked about it but never showed it. 🙁

  16. Gracie Schamus on December 25, 2021 at 12:42 am

Great job explaining this VERY NASTY serve. That 2 tone ball is a great practice tool, I’ll look into them!

  17. Fernando Mladineo on December 25, 2021 at 12:43 am

I’m not sure why one would be frustrated by allowing spin serves. Generally speaking, it means that one is a noob and therefore unable to return the serve. It makes the game more fun, imo and challenging. Informative video.

  18. C Brug on December 25, 2021 at 12:47 am

Not a fan since for most it adds more inconsistency

  19. Linda Evans on December 25, 2021 at 12:48 am

    Hate it!

  20. Mark Price Pickleball Club on December 25, 2021 at 12:48 am

Another fantastic video. I love the quality and detailed information to help players get better. Great job guys

  21. Spencer Lanier on December 25, 2021 at 12:49 am

I think it should be made illegal because it’s to hard to read and then hit a deep return

  22. Dick Byrne on December 25, 2021 at 12:50 am

Knew that the drop serve was going to get people to try new variations. Adding this much spin is fun to learn but I really find it inappropriate to use it when it’s leading to frustration and, more importantly, embarrassment for opponents. Save it for the right opponents

Do you *Love It* or *Hate it* ? _Legal?_

  26. C Brug on December 25, 2021 at 12:54 am

For most rec severs it brings in more inconsistency so I don’t see it as an advantage.

  27. Matthew Swinney on December 25, 2021 at 12:54 am

I think it is cool and can’t wait to try against my friends.

  28. Sunflower on December 25, 2021 at 12:55 am

I so hate the serve. Is it permanent or provisional? But this video was helpful
I had to listen to it twice

  29. Lisa Shea on December 25, 2021 at 12:57 am

Great video. Don’t like that serve because I can’t do it- lol. Thanks for the information!

  30. Jim Tobolski on December 25, 2021 at 12:57 am

I don’t know why anyone would want to make this illegal. You can either hit it. Or learn to hit it. But why limit the game because some are unable to hit the spin…

  31. Matt Battaglia on December 25, 2021 at 12:57 am

Great job. While I’m not a huge fan of the spin serve (feels like it cheapens the game), I do have mixed feelings of whether it should be legal or not. Primarily, I think it has been such a huge weapon simply because it was “new”. Now that more people are seeing it and used to it, and helpful videos like this one, I really just see it being another part of the game!

  32. kento1957 on December 25, 2021 at 12:57 am

Morgan Evans has a wicked one also.

  33. Tsumu Tu on December 25, 2021 at 1:02 am

Nice video and tips. I don’t mind the spin serve but i think it should be illegal if the server hide his spin. The toss should be visible to the receiver. I believe it will attract more young people to join this sport. just liked and subscribed your channel. keep up the good content!

  34. DTOWNTX214 on December 25, 2021 at 1:02 am

I practice it every once in a while and I think it’s a great innovation to the game. I’m nowhere near consistent enough to even try it in a match though.

  35. Eugene Gary on December 25, 2021 at 1:03 am

In the history of human conflict there has always been the continual interplay between offense and defense. The spin serve will succumb to this as will other innovations. As a senior I don’t like it 😕 but change is a constant.

  36. Thejoeb on December 25, 2021 at 1:08 am

I love it, weaponizing their own spin against them is very satisfying. Thanks John and Leo.

  37. Dave Russell on December 25, 2021 at 1:09 am

I had a hell of a time returning an American twist serve in tennis so does that mean it should be banned? No, I needed to learn how to put it back into play. Spin serves in pickleball are a lot easier than spin serves in tennis.

  38. mwashington2012 on December 25, 2021 at 1:11 am

Great video. Love your energy. Fantastic tips.
I learned playing ping pong that the best way to return a spinning serve is to put spin on the ball back at them.
Agree no spin serves — makes game about volleying and dinking, not fancy serves. And I’m someone who had just mastered the chainsaw and was acing people every game.

  39. Austin Hartvigsen on December 25, 2021 at 1:13 am

Too amateur of a player to have a meaningful opinion. Interesting information in the video

  40. Jim and Kelly Kemble on December 25, 2021 at 1:17 am

Thanks for the tip about the net partner calling the spin.

  41. Doug Niwa on December 25, 2021 at 1:17 am

I’m pretty neutral on this serve, since I haven’t been playing much doubles during the pandemic, and my one-handed spin serve isn’t all that effective. I try not to get too tied up in hating or loving any particular shot, if it’s legal than I learn it. The two tone balls look interesting and useful.

  42. Dennis Clark on December 25, 2021 at 1:19 am

I like the spin serve. Thanks for the info.

  43. Sean Rivard on December 25, 2021 at 1:19 am

I am new to pickleball. Have attempted to spin serve but not ready for it. I don’t think it should be illegal. Before the end of next year there will probably be 3 or 4 different serves that people will come up with that will be better. Great thst you guys have found a way to return this serve. Love your video!

  44. Paul McDevitt on December 25, 2021 at 1:19 am

These videos are always helpful in getting a deeper understanding of the topic. I am not a fan of this serve – but get that the game must move forward. As long as you can clearly see the ball in the server’s hand, I guess it is legal. As with most new things, people will get used to it over time and learn to play it. I noticed that many who use this type of serve miss serve, and are often relying on the serve over other aspects of their game.

  45. nenateacher on December 25, 2021 at 1:19 am

I think it is a part of the game. I just want to be able to do it as well.

  46. Benjamin Bramblett on December 25, 2021 at 1:22 am

I think even if they ban it people will be doing it for fun at club level

  47. Tom Hesemann on December 25, 2021 at 1:23 am

I am fine with the spin serve in the game. I find the flat and deep drive return to the server is very effective. In fact several opponents stopped spinning the ball to me after three or so deep return drives put them on their back foot and their third shot went long.

  48. Ben Welter on December 25, 2021 at 1:23 am

    Very well done.

  49. Lauren Hoffer on December 25, 2021 at 1:26 am

We have to adjust to the new serves. New ideas are good. Especially when we all can learn these ideas too.

  50. Dave Freeman on December 25, 2021 at 1:26 am

Not a hater, but also not a fan. But I’ll be one of those to hate once I can add this to my arsenal of serves.
Terrific video, though including a few return Demo shots could make it that much more informative/effective for us Mafioso’s!!!
