Despite being the only shot that you have total control of because you literally toss the ball to yourself, the pickleball serve can be an elusive shot for many.

Generating a lot of power onto a ball that is just sitting there and has no energy on it to begin with is a tougher skill than most people realize.

You do not get any kind of help from incoming speed that you can use as rebound power.

You have to generate all your own power and put it into the ball. Hitting it hard with precision can be a tall order.

In this video we cover the 5 key tips to an effective and powerful Pickleball serve. If your serve seems off then we’d bet it’s probably due to one of these 5 things now. Learn what they are, apply them to your serve and start dominating the service box.

Great video with tips I will adopt. I did notice what appears to be an inconsistency though, Jordan’s backswing for tip number 3 looks to be identical to the one he advises against in tip #4.

Thank you for these 5 techniques that you have shown. When you demonstrate the tip about not starting your serve so high, you look a bit uncomfortable starting at hip height the first time. If you watch the video in all the other tips, your swing is up between shoulder and ear height. You should be consistent, and either change your swing height or change the video tip and say to start your swing higher.

He is confused as to what "open" and "closed" stance is…he’s got it just the opposite.

A good SETUP is very important. Jordan, much like a golfer ‘s setup, a good setup leads to consistent swings in golf and serves in Pickleball. Well done! Any future tips on how to hit a cut serve? Thanks

    The McGuffin serve:

    1. Squat down
    2. Swing the paddle from the top-down in a windmill motion
    3. Bend knees back up
    4. Make contact with the ball and follow through

What do you think about these additional 2 tips: (1) Have "a pre-serve routine" and do it every time before you serve. For example, bounce the ball with your non-paddle hand 2 times or hit the ball to the ground with your paddle 3 times. Basically, it’s something to focus on and to clear your mind before you start the serve. and (2) Breathe. I take a single deep breath before the serve to relax the body and again, focus and clear the mind. I find these 2 additional tips very helpful and have used similar strategies in other sports.

Please settle of source of contention within our pickleball club:

True or False? In pickleball, there is no such thing as a legal serve with backspin because it is physically impossible to impart backspin on a serve without violating the Low to High rule.

When he slows it down to emphasize how to move the paddle, he looks like he is putting it in fast forward and reverse. It confuses me each time!
