Sage advice! Well-demonstrated and super easy to incorporate. Notice at several points throughout this video (more so than in other videos of yours) that your grip is way down on the handle. Is that how you normally play? Is that strategic? Or just comfortable?

Thank you. We just started playing PB and we need to learn strategies.

Just started playing and am wondering what the best outdoor ball brand is. Also, on the grip is it ever a good idea to put your index finger on the back of the paddle like ping pong? Nice video.

If you have a loose grip how do you keep your paddle from spinning in your hand and I end up with at the wrong angle?

Thanks for the tips. Going to play for the first time today.

  12. Patrick Manley on April 21, 2021 at 9:42 pm

Boy there’s not a lot of room behind that baseline on that court. I like to lob people and sometimes you need some room to go back and retrieve those.

    Good tips but those socks…😉

  14. Chopper on April 21, 2021 at 9:43 pm

I’ve been playing for five years and I still need to learn a lot. Can’t do hard shots. Very hard for me to hit back when it’s a spinning shot from the opposite. Do you have a video showing how to answer the
spinning shots? Very good video today! 👏🏼👌🏻👍🏻

How come your partner was turning her wrist on her forehands??

  16. J Look on April 21, 2021 at 9:45 pm

I get really defensive when hard shots come at me. My instinct says to get out of the way not hit the ball. I’ll need to get more back swing and follow through too.

Pickleball is not a game of strategy. It’s not like tennis. You are not going to move anyone from side to side on the court. PB is a game of how quickly you can react. That is all it is. Serve deep. Return deep. Return hard. Play everything down the middle. That is all you need to know about playing and winning at pickle ball. There is no strategy. This is a reactive sport only.

  37. margaret dunbar on April 21, 2021 at 10:12 pm

I love your videos but I am wondering why you are telling beginners to do a third shot drop to get to the line. This a difficult shot to master and will not be in a beginners “wheelhouse “.

  38. Michael Ward on April 21, 2021 at 10:15 pm

Great job Barrett! I loved the "Waiting for the elevator stance reference", a good visual example.

Good stuff! You pick the basic mistakes, and provide the correct fix. My game has gone from a 1 to a 7 just by correcting a few things.
    Keep it up.
